What to Expect

Part 1: Design of the Intervention (concluded)

The first part of the study was aimed at gaining the information to help guide us in the development of a digital intervention for sleep self-management for children with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis. During this “user-centered design process” we sought to better understand the participants’ experiences with sleep and arthritis, as well as how they use with and interact with digital devices and seek out information.

Part 2: Testing of the Intervention (now recruiting participants)

The goal of the second part of the SLEEPSMART study is to test and assess the web-based intervention that is being developed. Participation in this part of the study will involve:

Step 1: Completing surveys about sleep and arthritis symptoms; wearing of an actigraphy watch by the child; keeping track of child’s sleep and symptoms in an online sleep diary.

Step 2: Going through weekly learning modules about improving sleep health (some participants only).

Step 3: Completing surveys about sleep and arthritis symptoms; wearing of an actigraphy watch by the child; keeping track of child’s sleep and symptoms in an online sleep diary.

Children and their parents who take part will receive $160 as a thank you for their time and effort.
